My Advice and Tips on Georgia Police Car Auctions

Hi, I am Greg Smokes, owner of the Car Auction Network blog. I want more people to know about the fun and excitement to be had at local police car auctions and tow lot auctions.

There are several police impound and tow auctions around Georgia — with most of them being around metro Atlanta. While they are open to licensed car dealers and the public, I feel that these auctions are better suited for those that already have some car auction experience.

The type of cars offered are police seizures, abandoned vehicles, repossessions, tow lot impounds, etc. Some may have been wrecked, but this will be disclosed during the auction by the auctioneer.

I have seen all sorts of items for sale at these auctions — including boats, ATVs, and motorcycles, as well as used cars and trucks (also work trucks and utility vans). Some may be late models in decent shape, while others will be obvious why they were abandoned. Occasionally, these auctions will also have used police cars for sale.

Most of these tow and police auto auctions in Georgia do not charge a fee to attend the auction. However, expect to pay a fee in addition to the price of the car if you buy one.

My Best Advice: Some of these auctions allow you to arrive early to inspect the vehicles – be sure to take advantage of that opportunity.

Be sure to contact the auction ahead of time to make sure they accept the form of payment you wish to use. You will need to bring an I.D., preferably a current Georgia driver’s license, but out of state is OK. Just remember that police repossessed cars for sale come with a lot of risks, so proceed with caution.

I like Apple Towing Car Auctions because they are held weekly, have online bidding with photos of the auction cars for sale, and have vehicles from many locations around the US. City of Atlanta Georgia – Surplus Auctions – Atlanta, GA 30303 – The City of Atlanta surplus auctions are worth checking out if you want a good deal. I once picked up a beat-up but running cargo van there that turned out to be exactly what I needed for a delivery business.

It’s all online, open to anyone, and while the inventory changes fast, with a bit of persistence, you can find solid opportunities if you stay on top of it.

Clayton County, Ga Public Surplus Auction – The Clayton County public surplus auctions are a solid spot for finding county vehicles and equipment at great prices.

I’ve grabbed everything from utility trucks to office supplies through platforms like GovDeals and PropertyRoom.com—both reliable sites that handle the county’s surplus listings. These auctions move fast, so staying consistent and checking those sites regularly is key to catching good deals before someone else does.

Surplus Sales – Sandersville, Ga Sandersville, GA 31082 – Public surplus auctions are online via the GovDeals website. My Advice: They do not list items frequently, so check back again for more surplus items for sale. Also, you can sign up for email alerts on GovDeals.

Willard Wrecker Service

My Tips on Willard Wrecker Impound Auction: Open to the public – I frequently see tow impounds and police seizures from around Metro Atlanta at this tow company auction. The auctions are held live onsite and they only provide a list of vehicles on their site with VINs. However, they do not provide photos so you will need to keep that in mind.

Police car auctions in Georgia are not held as frequently as wholesale auto auctions in Georgia. They require a bit more patience and you will need to keep checking back for new auction listings and information on additional auction cars for sale.

They are open to the public and are free car auctions so you will not require any type of special license to bid on a car. Use the sites above to find out when the next police car auction is being held near you.

I always recommend that you do a close inspection of impounded cars or trucks before bidding at a police auction. Hidden damage, such as transmissions, can be difficult to detect. Many of the impounded vehicles for sale will need at least some minor body work.
